Friday, June 9, 2023 –A motion to impeach President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua is in the offing following his alleged interference with political parties.
Jubilee Party leadership made the threat during their inaugural National Executive Committee (NEC) held in Nairobi on Wednesday June 8 under embattled Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni.
In their address, they noted that the Bill which could be ready anytime soon, will see Members in both Houses discuss the conduct of President William Ruto as well as his deputy as far as interfering with the Constitution is concerned.
Former Ndaragwa Member of Parliament Jeremiah Kioni, stated that proposals to craft the Bill would be pegged on political parties’ guidelines.
If this action is taken, Kioni argued that, it will restore back order into politics of this country and stop the head of State from breaking into other parties through the back door.
He seized the opportunity to accuse Speaker Moses Wetang’ula for not heeding to the opposition’s calls to remove Sabina Chege from House leadership position.
“We want to have a law where, in future, people who hold different positions and interfere with parties just like Ruto, Gachagua and now Wetang’ula (National Assembly Speaker, Moses Wetangula) face impeachment motions,” Kioni stated.
And while announcing this impeachment plans, he acknowledged that it won’t be a walk in the park because the ruling side has poached enough numbers, already.
He, however, reasoned that should it happen that Ruto overwhelms them, then Jubilee Party would exploit alternatives until this comes to pass.
“We will try and see if the MPs will pass that Bill. If they fail, others will pass it in Parliament,” Kioni insisted.
According to the Kenyan 2010 promulgated Constitution, a president can be impeached for violating the Constitution, treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanours.
In his latest public rants, opposition honcho Raila Odinga asked his rival Dr. Ruto to stop meddling in other political parties’ affairs.
Odinga and Martha Karua warned that, should Ruto not stop this behaviour, the only language they will resort to would be to go back to the streets.
