Thursday, June 23, 2022 –Kenya Civil Aviation Authority KCAA has today confirmed arrest of a man who was spotted dangerously hanging on a politician’s chopper in Meru, a couple of days ago.
In a statement seen by Homenews.co.ke, the KCAA through Director General Emile Arao revealed that the chopper which the man was loosely hanging was ferrying Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya who was doing Azimio rallies around their Mt Kenya Region.
In their statement released on Thursday June 23, KCAA harshly condemned the incident which it termed breach of security and which will not be allowed anymore.
“The culprit in this incident is in police custody and the Authority is coordinating with law enforcement agencies to ensure the due course of the law as espoused in the Civil Aviation Act and Regulations is observed,” their statement read in part.
Mr. Arao further explained that following the incident, they had now started collaborating with law enforcement enforcers to ensure sanity is restored in the air space by speaking to the politicians and their pilots to also try as much as possible to keep members of the public away from their planes saying anything else means endangering innocent lives.
“Members of the public seen to approach the aircraft landing and take-off sites will be held culpable. Further, operators are reminded that,” Arao stated.
KCAA has also instructed all political leaders to make prior arrangements with helicopter operators so that security is maintained around the choppers.
