Friday, September 10, 2021 -Police who will be found drunk while on duty risk expulsion from the service going forward.
This was announced during a meeting organized at the Kenya School of Government on Thursday September 9.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Dr. Fred Matiang’i directed that any police officer found flouting orderliness while on duty will not be spared since cases of indiscipline have since gone up in recent days.
“I want us to remove all these tipsy chiefs and assistant chiefs from the system. I really do not mind even if I have to sack 500 of them,” the CS remarked.
He also warned that it is not always his duty to remind police officers what to do since they have their job description JD with them. Anyone found breaking the rules will carry his own cross.
“How can you be telling people not to consume substandard and illicit liquor and you yourself do exactly the opposite? Does that even make sense?” the CS posed.
He also took issue with political class during this campaign environment saying they like distributing cheap liquor to supporters in the villages and slums for their own political gains.
Matiang’i also noted that his office has recorded reports where officers are bribed to allow substandard liquor to sell in the market where they serve.
“I am not forcing you to live my life of not drinking, but I will not allow you to wobble around in an official uniform,” Matiang’i warned.
He also pointed out that several county government have licensed rogue operators in their areas so that they can benefit from such proceeds.
