Tuesday, August 22, 2023 –Police in Nairobi have killed key suspect involved in the murder of DCI officer David Mayaka who was shot at close range, recently.
In a confirmation made today Tuesday August 22 morning, the police announced the fierce shootout that saw the suspect stage a counter attack from his Soweto slums hideout.’
Nairobi Police Commander Adamson Bungei, noted that the police officers had trailed the suspect for several weeks and traced him to his home in Soweto slums, Kayole.
And early morning on Tuesday August 22, a special unit was deployed to go for him and, on arrival, they ordered him to surrender only for the suspect to start confronting them with a gun.
Immediately, a fierce shootout that left one officer injured on the leg ensured; but they finally overpowered him(the suspect) and neutralized him on the ground.
Police boss, Bungei, officially confirmed that the suspect shot and injured one police officer, before he was also shot dead.
“One of our officers was injured and rushed to the hospital. He is now in stable condition. There was also a family at the house, but none of them was injured,” Bungei confirmed.
In the life-threatening exercise, police managed to recover 12 rounds of ammunition, a pistol and other gadgets suspected to have been used in past and recent criminal engagements within the city.
The gun recovered is also believed to have been used in the murder of David Mayaka on August 8 as wife Kemunto Mayaka watched, helplessly.
Remaining is the third suspect who is still at large as police continue with the manhunt that saw Alex Wanjiru arrested from Ruthingiti Village in Kiambu County.
“We arrested another suspect, the boda rider, last week and are still looking for the third suspect. We ask him to surrender himself,” Police boss Bungei disclosed.
In the confirmation, officers drawn from the Crime Research & Intelligence Bureau apprehended the boda rider who was hiding in Ruthingiti, Kiambu County on August 15.
The suspect had left Nairobi’s Kayole area to the village after participating in the murder of the DCI officer.
