Wednesday, November 10, 2021 –National Police Service NPS has reported that Deputy President William Ruto disregarded their advice on Kisumu tour.
According to Spokesman Bruno Shioso, Dr. Ruto was told about the hostility that could occur in Kisumu but he chose to ignore.
The spokesman noted that their police department had gathered enough information on the looming tension at Kondele area due to handouts; which information they shared with the DP’s team who, unfortunately, chose to go against.
The police wanted Ruto and his campaign brigade to postpone the rally for safety reasons after they(police) realized that political camps were not at peace with each other due to handouts.
And when things got offhand, police were forced to swing into action, lobbed teargas to disperse rowdy youth who had barricaded roads for Ruto’s convoy at Kondele area forcing the rally to stop prematurely.
Preliminary investigations showed that some cars in Ruto’s convoy had been pelted with stones and damaged both their windscreens and lamps.
But before this happened, Ruto had received a heroic welcome at Kisumu City CBD where youth and mothers thronged streets chanting the Hustler slogans.
He would pick up his speech with the bottom Up model gospel asking each and everyone from the Lakeside to support his presidency
“Do you want us to change the Constitution first or to change the economy? Reggae must wait,” Ruto posed as the crowd cheered on.
Aiming directly at Raila Odinga, Ruto stated that the former premier was wrong to force the BBI on Kenyans at the time everyone was suffering economically.
“Let them stop their pride saying ‘nobody can stop reggae’ because there is a God in heaven who has the ability to change everything,” the DP continued.
Ruto and his team have camped in Nyanza now for the second day in a row in his bid to push for atleast 40 percent of votes from Raila Odinga’s backyard which currently seems somewhat receptive to different political parties.
