Tuesday, October 3, 2023 –President has asked all ministries to cut down their annual budget so that to align with the little resources the country is grappling with.
In a dispatch released today Tuesday October 3, Ruto directed that every ministry should look for ways to reduce spending to save his government from straining for resources.
“President William Ruto has directed ministries to cut their 2023/2024 budgets by 10 per cent to align expenditures with available resources amidst the global economic stress,” read the dispatch in part.
The head of State added that it was time to consider prudence in usage of public money and resources as wastage was costing the country millions in wasted taxes that could otherwise have helped in one way or another.
“While chairing a cabinet meeting at State House, Nairobi, President Ruto emphasized the need for the Government to exercise prudence in resource utilisation, firmly stating that wastage and corruption would not be tolerated.” read the dispatch in part.
This directive on ministry budget coming days after new travel guidelines restricting unnecessary expenditure were issued to State officers.
The move also coming at the time Kenyans are hard pressed with taxes amidst falling shilling against the World dollar.
On the other hand, the Cabinet resolved to set aside sh 4 billion to purchase recently harvested maize from farmers across the country.
It was also noted that measures would be taken to help the farmers in drying and storing the produce to mitigate post-harvest losses.
Regarding the granting Kenya rights to host the African Cup of Nations AFCON by the Confederation of African Football CAF, the Cabinet approved the construction of the Talanta Stadium to be located at the Jamhuri Grounds in Nairobi County.
