Thursday August 17, 2023 –Renson Mulele Ingonga is now close to replacing Noordin Haji as the new Director of Criminal Investigations DPP.
President William Ruto nominated Mr. Mulele despite the fact that he was the most unpopular in the applicants list.
Those who had applied for the position were fifteen individuals; among them Lawyer Danstan Omari and Miguna Miguna who never made it to the shortlist.
Mulele was first heard in public in the year 2016 when he applied for the position of judge of the Environment and Land Court but was not shortlisted.
His colleagues, however, say he is popular among those practicing in the legal fraternity and that he was admitted to the bar in the year 2005.
A Senior Assistant DPP who spoke to one of the local media channels described the advocate as a calm and collected litigant who has a knack for public service.
“He is an active litigator who joined the office of the DPP for several years. Ingonga also consults a lot,” stated the prosecutor as quoted by one of the local channels.
Mr. Mulele will be tasked with instituting and undertaking the prosecution of cases handled by his predecessor Noordin Haji who has since been appointed by the head of State to manage the National Intelligence Service NIS
He will be working in cooperation with the office of the Directorate of Criminal Investigation DPP.
A cross check established that the prosecutor holds a Masters Degree from the University of Nairobi, and his thesis centred around judicial enforcement of public interest litigation under the 2010 Constitution of Kenya.
DPP applicant who didn’t make it include Jacinta Nyamosi, Victor Mule, Tabitha Ouya, David Ruto, Andayi Francis, Winston Ngaira, Peter Mailayi, Lilian Okumu-Obuo,Jacob Ondari, James Ndegwa, and David Okachi.
Further, former IEBC commissioner Thomas Letangule, lawyer Danstan Omari and advocate Taib Ali Taib.
