Sunday, August 20, 2023 –A section of Azimio la Umoja politicians and supporters now want demonstrations held against United States of America U.S.A Ambassador Meg Whitman.
The politicians and supporters argue that this move is meant to prove to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that Mr. Odinga can force changes if he wanted.
They also claim that sentiments made by Meg that President Ruto was legitimately elected in the last year’s polls were misleading and has to be censured.
In a social media post on Saturday, August 20, Homa Bay Member of Parliament MP Peter Kaluma faulted Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for trolling Odinga as a nobody in Kenya.
This is after the DP mocked the former Prime Minister as a powerless leader who cannot recall a mere village chief in Bondo.
“Gachagua must respect chiefs! Baba (Raila) should call for maandamano against the US Ambassador,” Kaluma, who is in the opposition said.
Yesterday, Political commentator and analyst Herman Manyora also told DP Gachagua that Odinga’s ability to bring everything to standstill when he wants is known to everyone.
“Rigathi says that Raila Odinga is a private citizen who can’t even transfer his local Assistant Chief. True? Perhaps. But how does this private citizen bring the country to a standstill?
“Remember, Rig G, only Corona and Baba can cause a lockdown! The country is at Bomas, right?” he responded.
These sentiments corroborating those of former Defense Cabinet Secretary CS Eugene Wamalwa who noted that the U.S diplomat in the country had become a spokes lady for the ruling party UDA.
Fire-breathing Wamalwa added, was it in their mandate, they would have asked Senator Chris Coons to take with him the ambassador back home.
“We know that the Senator is in town, and he is also US President Joe Biden’s senator. If it were our wish, we would have sent him back with Meg, but we are sending him with the message that we are not happy with the ambassador,” Mr. Wamalwa stated.
But Kenya Kwanza-allied leaders led by President William Ruto have continued faulting Odinga for referring to Whitman as a rogue official.
Ruto argued that what Whitman had said in the Devolution Conference was a statement of fact about last year’s elections.
Speaker Moses Wetangula, on Saturday August 19, also said that opposition politicians should learn to respect foreign officials.
