Tuesday, July 25, 2023 –Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Abraham Korir Sing’Oei has poured cold water on claims by Raila Odinga that President Samia Suluhu was in the country for mediation.
Speaking on NTV night show today Tuesday July 25, Sing’Oei told his host that whatever Mr. Odinga had said today concerning the arrival in the country of the Tanzanian head of State was utter fiction made to whip emotions.
Dr. Sing’Oei noted that the matter of any President arriving in the country is not a discretion of an opposition leader.
He added that it is the prerogative of the country’s leadership/government to be aware of arrival of other state heads and this has nothing to do with the opposition.
“If Samia was here, this government was supposed to know because it is not just any matter, it’s important for this government to know that there is a president of another country around,” he stated.
Asked about any intervention from the international community, the PS said Raila was manufacturing a crisis with an aim of pushing this government to submission.
He further said that the Odinga-led faction was hellbent on pressing issues that are not there so that to attract the attention of the world.
“For international community to speak about a number of those harmed during protests and which has not been confirmed is utter nonsense.
“These are manufactured issues and, as we speak, there are police officers who are nursing injuries in various facilities,” he added.
The PS was speaking this shortly after President William Ruto finally invited the opposition leader (Odinga) for a face-to-face discussion.
President Ruto asked Odinga to prepare for a meeting from tomorrow once he arrives from his Tanzanian tour.
The President is in Tanzania for a human capital meeting to harmonise the expansion of employment opportunities in the continent.
