Monday, November 14, 2022 –The country is in total state of confusion, anxiety and panic as levels of insecurity go on the rise in just a few days of the new Kenya Kwanza government.
Apart from cattle rustling and banditry in pastoral areas, urban centers are facing their fair share of insecurity cases with mugging gangs stabbing and robbing residents at will on a daily basis.
In just one week time, there has been an alarming rate of mugging, stabbing, killing and robbing of innocent pedestrians around Nairobi and mainly the CBD.
It doesn’t matter which time you are in town, anytime there could be reported robbery starting with Globe Cinema Round About extending into foot bridges and flyovers in many parts of urban centers.
The criminals, mostly who are youth on motorbike and who think the word ‘hustler’ means robbing and killing, are using clubs, sharpened knives and pistols to carry on with their duties as police lag behind in acting.
Victims have been injured, and their valuables including phones, tablets, laptops and watches stolen in complete broad day light.
The growing state of lawlessness has been a worrying state in the country; what recently triggered a stern statement from opposition chief, Raila Odinga.
“Lawlessness and impunity seem to be finding their way back into our national life, targeting not just individuals but also property in a manner witnessed in a previous era that Kenyans had hoped were gone forever.
“This is the easiest way to lose a country to criminals,” Raila said,
And yesterday, Sunday November 13, President William Ruto also delivered a warning statement from Baringo County over the state of insecurity in the country.
“Muggings, cattle rustling or other forms of insecurity must stop,” the President said, adding that the National Police Service NPS is independent and properly resourced to execute its mandate.
He was speaking this after reports emerged that a 24-year old Keagan Githua was stabbed in the chest in Rideways on October 30.
Several other Kenyans have lost lives some fighting for their lives in hospitals across the country.
A quick cross-check by Homenews.co.ke in Kakamega Town alone, indicated that residents of Maraba, Malemba and the neighboring Shirere estates are living in panic over a similar challenge.
Businesses have to close before 9 PM every day and everyone must be at home by that time.
