Monday, August 23, 2021 -Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party boss Raila Amollo Odinga has jetted out of the country to attend President-elect Hakainde Hichilema’s in-auguration ceremony.
Hakainde defeated the incumbent Edgar Lungu in a hotly contested election that saw masses turn up at the polling stations to cast a protest vote against Lungu and his administration.
The opposition chief Raila is reportedly representing President Uhuru Kenyatta who was expected to be present in Zambia for the Tuesday August 24 State function.
“Arrived in Lusaka, Zambia for tomorrow’s inauguration of President-Elect @HHichilema. It will be a great day for the people of Zambia and Africa as a whole to witness a seamless transfer of power as envisaged by democratic processes,” Raila tweeted on Monday August evening.
Homenews.co.ke has also learnt that Mr. Odinga was accompanied by several government officials who are currently pitching camp in Zambia.
Naturally, such an event is usually attended by a sitting president but Odinga’s present signifies the value Odinga currently has in Kenyatta’s administration as a result of their historic March 18 Handshake.
Hakainde’s main rallying call has been unity, economic recovery and religious freedom for citizens. He is a Seventh Day Adventist Church member.
