Wednesday, June 5, 2024 -Opposition leader Raila Odinga has today cemented his ties with Kenya Kwanza administration.
Speaking in a joint press briefing held at Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi’s Railways headquarters on Wednesday June 5, Mr Odinga said he fell in love with becoming the next African Union AUC chair what forced him to flaunt the idea to William Ruto’s government which, in turn, shocked him with it’s unequivocal support.
“You can’t run for this position without being sponsored by your country…I was pleasantly surprised that the Kenyan govt supported me. I was expecting them to say no so I don’t know why they said yes,” said Raila Odinga.
Odinga announcement further that many African heads of State supported the idea and assured him of their votes.
Among the less expected countries that supported his chairmanship candidacy include the neighbouring Uganda. Nigeria is also in the fold.
Addressing in the same meeting today, host Musalia Mudavadi said the Kenyan government supports Odinga not because of political reasons but it is because he is upto the task.
“We said yes, because Raila is competent,” PCS Mudavadi noted.
Kenya Kwanza government is now on a roller coaster to make sure it speaks to other partners to make this a reality by voting Mr Odinga.
The government has since put aside millions of mobilisation funds to help in the continental exercise.
