Thursday, August 29, 2024 –Minority leader in National Assembly Junet Mohamed has claimed opposition role following the exit of Raila Odinga to the continental leadership.
Speaking in Homa Bay County today in the presence of other leaders fetched from both the opposition and government, MP Junet insinuated that he is, by virtue of being the minority leader in the National Assembly, the official opposition leader in Kenya.
He said those claiming to be Raila Odinga’s successors are wasting time because he is already playing that role of government oversight in the Parliament.
He also noted that, currently, he is in the process of drafting a bill that is supposed to help recognise the office of the opposition leader in Kenya.
“Me and Ichung’wah we have a Bill on opposition leader. For now, there is no Bill and everyone must wait for that Bill to go through.
“Right now, I am the leader of the opposition here in Kenya. So Please, those in the opposition should talk to me because I am their leader,” Junet Mohamed added.
His remarks coming at a time Azimio la Umoja co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka claimed and announced to the media that he was now the substantial official opposition leader.
Musyoka said Odinga’s dalliance with the government which is sponsoring his AUC candidature will not deter the opposition Coalition from exercising its oversight over President Ruto.
“While our leader embarks on this new chapter, the Azimio Coalition remains steadfast with a firm commitment and shared objectives of addressing the issue of concern to the people,” he said.
“Azimio will not dissolve. I’m not at State House today, because I want to show you I am the official opposition leader,” Musyoka added.
He also revealed that the reason he deliberately rejected to attend Raila Odinga’s AUC launch held in the Statehouse was because he did not want to betray the opposition by involving himself in Statehouse activities.
