Saturday, December 16, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja leader Raila Odinga today confronted National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula.
Addressing residents of Bungoma County on Saturday December 16 where he attended the late Hon. Lawrence Sifuna burial service, Mr. Odinga told Wetang’ula to consider resigning from Ford Kenya party leadership if he wanted to be remembered as a neutral speaker.
“Wetangula is my good friend whom I took from KANU and brought him to join us during the Nyayo time.
“But I am perturbed by the way he runs Parliamentary sessions in five minutes. How can you decide on a motion in only five minutes?” Odinga posed.
He said, Wetang’ula had failed in running affairs of the Assembly in a bipartisan manner because he is a political supporter of the current regime.
According to Raila, House of Commons required a neutral speaker to competently manage members.
Odinga said, as it stands today, MPs are micromanaged from a central place where the president instructs them to run and clear bills in a record five minutes.
He said, with Wetang’ula still at the helm of Parliament, the country is headed to a difficult position as far as creating better laws is concerned.
Also, the opposition boss hinted at joining the pannel that is supposed to select the new team at the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC ahead of next general election.
Raila was addressing crowds in the presence of area governor Kenneth Lusaka, Parliament Speaker Moses Wetang’ula and other area leaders among them Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna who led the bereaved family.
