Friday, February 4, 2022 –Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party boss Raila Odinga has left the country for one week.
His spokesman Dennis Onayngo released the official statement on Friday February 4 evening in which he indicated the Special African Union Envoy had flown out for other international assignments.
Odinga is expected to tour both Ethiopia and India. In Ethiopia, he will be attending the 35th Summit of the African Union in Addis Ababa City. The event will run from February 5 to 6 before he leaves for the Asian country.
“In his capacity as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa, Odinga will hold Infrastructure related events and meetings on the sidelines of the Summit,” the statement read in part.
Earlier today, the opposition honcho had shared photos of him and former Ethiopian Prime Minister, Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe and former Ambassador to Kenya, Meles Alem. The trio together shared alot before he(Raila) boarded his plane out.
“Great catching up with Hailemariam Desalegn Boshe, former Ethiopian PM, and Meles Alem, their Ambassador to Kenya, before taking off for Addis Ababa to attend an AU meeting,” he updated.
While welcoming visitors at home, Ethiopia’s Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, said their city was looking forward to hosting the African states and their respective representatives.
“After a two-year interruption due to the pandemic, Ethiopia welcomes the resumption of the AU Summit in its capital city, Addis Ababa, which has been gearing up to warmly receive our fellow brothers and sisters,” PM Ahmed noted.
His tour is coming at the time Kenya’s Vice President William Ruto has also been in Dubai in what many now think was a tactical break from the ugly Kenyan politics before he can fully bounce back for another round of gruesome homestretch campaigns.
Raila, in 2021, also took a brief break from local campaigns and jetted out to the United Arab Emirates UAE in his capacity as the African Union High Representative for Infrastructure Development in Africa.
