Friday, March 31, 2023 –Following the arrival of foreign mission from the United States of America USA in the country, both the government and the opposition are said to be under pressure to calm the rising temperatures.
Addressing this matter yesterday Thursday March 30 from Mombasa during the commissioning of 500 Kenyan seafarers to join international shipping lines, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua confessed having held a discussion with envoys from foreign powers who are seeking to strike a truce between President Ruto and the opposition.
But in response to the visitors, Gachagua revealed telling them that the only viable discussion they can have with Mr. Odinga is about his permanent exit from national politics.
“We have told our international partners who are pushing us to sit with Raila Odinga. We have told Church leaders who are pushing us to sit with Raila Odinga that we are willing to sit with him but not to discuss his forceful entry into government.
“We are telling our friends that we cannot violate the Constitution,” Gachagua added.
Gachagua also indicated that, apart from foreign powers, religious leaders were working day and night to bring them together with Raila.
“Mr. Odinga, you have been unfair to the people of Kenya, and we want to invite you for a meeting with President William Ruto to discuss your exit from Kenya’s political space,” he further indicated.
He, therefore, seized the opportunity to accuse the opposition leader of using similar old tactics of joining the governments through the back door.
New details have also emerged that the same delegation from the US, led by Delaware Senator Chris Coons, has now turned to former President Uhuru Kenyatta, after former Prime Minister Raila Odinga declined to give up his stance on anti-State protests.
Insiders disclosed that the team scheduled a meeting with the former head of State to discuss on the State of the nation and, if possible, prevail upon Odinga to stop mass protests for dialogue.
While meeting Raila on Wednesday March 29, the US delegation was said to have expressed reservations about the ongoing protests despite accepting that it was a Constitutional right.
Raila, and DP Gachagua, on Wednesday, March 29, met US Senator Christopher Coons who is credited for engineering the Handshake between former President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila in 2018.
