Monday, June 5, 2023 – Azimio la Umoja leaders have slammed Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for creating artificial resurgence of militia groups so that to visit havoc on those with dissenting voices around Central Kenya.
In a meeting chaired by Raila Odinga in Nairobi today Monday June 5, Azimio leadership argued that DP Gachagua was hellbent on creating a security crisis in the region so that to start jailing innocent youth who are now moving away from them.
They wondered how, all of a sudden, the poor hustlers who were the back born of Ruto’s 2022 campaigns had been turned into illegal Mungiki sect members.
“Kenya Kwanza administration should stop victimizing the young men and women of Mt. Kenya in the name of cracking down on Mungiki. They should respect the choice of association by the young people of Gikuyu Community,” Odinga fired.
His sentiments were echoed by his former running mate Ms Martha Karua who stated that the current regime was keen on maligning the hardworking youth in their Mt Kenya Region because it(regime) feels its nolonger popular on the ground.
She recounted a recent declaration made by DP Gachagua that Mt Kenya was full of drunkards and emerging Mungiki sect members whose leadership was Maina Njenga.
Also speaking on the same matter, DAP-Kenya Party leader Eugene Wamalwa opined that the Kenya Kwanza administration is quickly losing support of the Mt Kenya.
Moreover, the leadership sought to know how DP Rigathi Gachagua, majority leader Kimani Ichung’wah and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro were related to Mau Mau fighters.
They challenged the two to produce the service numbers of their fathers whom they claim were key Mau Mau fighters for this country’s independence.
For instance, Gachagua has for a long time, claimed that his father was a Mau Mau fighter; a tactic that many say is his strategy of gaining political ground in the vote-rich Mount Kenya GEMA region.
“Mr Gachagua, you and (Kikuyu MP) Kimani Ichung’wah have been bragging all along that you are the sons of Mau Mau. I want to challenge you today, Mr Gachagua, to tell Kenyans your relationship with Chief Nderi Gachagua Wang’ombe, who was assassinated by the Mau Mau in 1953 because of his collaboration with the brutal colonial regime.
“That Gachagua came from Mathira, we want you to come clean and tell Kenyans your relationship with him. Tell us also, if your father was a Mau Mau, what was his service number in the Mau Mau movement? The same thing with Kimani Ichung’wah,” the opposition leader added.
The Azimio leaders used the opportunity to ask their supporters to wait for a final stand on the stormy Finance Bill 2023 debate.
