Tuesday, February 27, 2024 –Azimio la Umoja boss Raila Odinga has lauded Presidents William Ruto and his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni for endorsing his contumacy for the AU Commission top job.
Through a a series of statements seen by Kenyawide.com on Tuesday February 27 morning, Mr Odinga revealed that Museveni had supported his bid same to President William Ruto; making the number of those already supporting him to be two.
“Several days ago, I accepted an invitation from President Kaguta Museveni of Uganda for a joint meeting with President William Ruto today to discuss the deepening of regional integration within the East African Community.
“Crucially, at the urging of President Museveni, we also discussed my candidacy for Chairperson of the African Union Commission. I am very grateful to President Museveni for strongly endorsing my candidacy and to President Ruto for fully backing it,” Odinga listed the agenda in their meeting.
The two – Ruto and Raila – took time out of their busy engagement to visit President Museveni’s wonderous cattle farm in Kisozi.
Speaking on the same, Ugandan Museveni noted that he, actually, met with the two leaders from Kenya and together discussed Raila Odinga’s bid for the African Union chairmanship.
“Also discussed was the declared candidacy of Kenya’s former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship,” stated Museveni.
The trio further discussed issues of mutual interest between Kenya and Uganda as well as the larger East Africa.
“I was happy to meet President Ruto and Rt. Hon. Odinga this afternoon at my farm in Kisozi. We discussed issues of mutual interest between our two countries and the East African Community. I welcome them,” stated President Museveni.
His Kenyan counterpart, Dr. William Ruto said, was glad to meet with Museveni to discuss trade between Kenya and Uganda.
