Monday, January 23, 2023 –Opposition leader Raila Odinga has incited his supporters against William Ruto’s Kenya Kwanza government which he has today described as illegitimate and incompetent.
Addressing mammoth crowd at Kamukunji Grounds Nairobi during their Azimio la Umoja anti-government rally, a charged up Odinga who jetted back into the country today from South Africa, noted that Ruto climbed to power through dubious means and, therefore, he ought not to be recognized.
He was speaking this in reference to recent findings by the whistle blower at the electoral body IEBC which indicated that the August 9 election exercise was flawed.
“We as Azimio reject the 2022 election results totally. We cannot and will not recognise the Kenya Kwanza regime and term its government as illegitimate.
“We do not recognise William Ruto as the president of Kenya and we equally do not recognise any officials in office with him,” Odinga announced as supporters cheered him on.
He also demanded an immediate access to all the 2022 records at the IEBC so that a thorough forensic audit can be done and the rot established.
“We demand that the entire infrastructure and the records of the 2022 elections at the IEBC be made public and be audited by an impartial body. A forensic audit of the IEBC results and systems is non-negotiable,” he added.
Raila, who was accompanied by his allies, Kalonzo Musyoka, Martha Karua among others warned President William Ruto against handpicking next group of commissioners at the IEBC saying the process should be as inclusive as possible.
His remarks are coming just a day after both the president and his deputy cautioned him against creating tension in the country.
As DP Gachagua dared him, Ruto clarified that he will not allow anyone to cause panic and fear to other Kenyans.
