Tuesday, June 1, 2021 -Raila Amollo Odinga could be on his way out of active politics after 2022. Details have emerged.
ODM Party leadership has started planning on how they can run the party in the absence of their party leader Raila Odinga.
Party National Chairman John Mbadi has made the revelations arguing that Odinga’s age factor is of concern for most of them especially after 2022.
Since its inception, ODM Party has had Odinga as party leader and has been a constant identity of the party which he has used three times to vie for the presidency. In 2007, 2013, and 2017 losing each time to both retired Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta.
Mr. Mbadi recently told the Star that Mr. Odinga – their party boss – who is well ageing is getting to that respected level where he is now concentrating on uniting and leaving the country to young able hands. ODM must therefore learn to survive in his absence.
“The more you grow the more you mature in politics. He is at that point where he says what we need is to leave a united country,” the National Assembly Minority Leader said.
He added that no one can remain in politics forever and so is Raila who has done a lot for this country and his resting time is nigh. He will be running activities from the comfort of his room most of the time.
This, according to Mbadi, made one of the reasons he reached out for a truce with his nemesis President Uhuru Kenyatta so that the country can be governable.
“Whatever it is, where he is going is nearer than where he is coming from in terms of even politics. He can’t be in politics forever,” he is quoted.
President Uhuru Kenyatta allies have been on record promising to leave the country in hands that will transition the power to youthful leaders who are corrupt free.
David Murathe, for example, has been outright asking the country to start preparing for Odinga presidency in 2022 and thereafter .
