Friday, November 18, 2022 –Azimio la Umoja top luminaries today met newly-elected East Africa Legislative Assembly EALA MPs for a star-studded luncheon following their yesterday victory.
Leader Raila Odinga, his running mate Martha Karua as well as Kalonzo Musyoka converged in Nairobi to hold a celebratory party for the winners who included, Winnie Odinga, Kanini Kega, Kennedy Musyoka, and Mombasa politician Suleiman Shahbal.
“The Azimio declaration was made in Arusha by Mwalimu Julius Nyerere in 1976. We are proud that today, Azimio La Umoja One Kenya coalition is sending its brigade to Arusha to fulfil the EAC Azimio Declaration.” Raila’s congratulatory message read.
Raila, Karua and Kalonzo all praised the winners and exuded a lot of confidence that they will represent Kenya across East Africa well.
The three Azimio principals would then emerge in photos smiling and wishing the winners all the best as they prepare to take up their role in the East African Assembly EALA.
Winnie, today Friday November 18 afternoon, made a special dedication to the 49 ODM supporters who died in the 2017 general election following a confrontation with the then Jubilee government of Uhuruto.
“I am still here by God’s grace. Fast forward today, I am elected to be a member of the EALA. I am humbled. I am grateful. I am ready. This is for all the ones we lost on the way. There is no me without you,” Winnie made the commemoration.
Winnie will now be serving Kenya in the East African Assembly together with the eight colleagues who were elected from both sides of the political divide.
The East African Legislative Assembly has 62 members, of which each member state submits only 9 elected members, and 8 ex-officio members. According to Article 50 of the East African Community Treaty, members are elected by their respective country’s national legislature. Either National Assembly or Senate or both.
