Friday, March 31, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja brigade has blasted international development partners for compromising the democracy of the country for their own business reasons.
Addressing mourners in Gem Constituency Kodiaga Village, opposition leader Raila Odinga took issue with the United States of American USA Ambassador Meg Whitman, whom he claimed was abating wrong doings of this new regime.
A visibly charged-up Raila wondered why Meg wanted to measure standards of this country differently from other democracies.
“Democracy must be measured the same way as other counties. What is wrong here should be wrong elsewhere.
“IEBC decided the election with only three commissioners on board out of seven, how do you then stand and tell the world that the election was free and fair?” he posed.
Odinga seized the opportunity to urge the United States to keep off Kenyan affairs if its mission is to take sides in local matters; saying this may worsen the current situation in the country.
“The development partners are putting a blind eye on human rights in the name of coming to develop our continent. This is wrong,” he asserted.
On her part, Martha Karua who was also present with Governor James Orengo, promised to hold to account the current Inspector General of Police IG Japhet Koome for the atrocities committed during their protests.
She also said that the police had been deployed in her rural so that not to allow Raila’s supporters to come out of their homes to join the protests.
However, the National Police Service NPS has, so far, claimed that their officers have also been brutalised by Azimio supporters; some left with major injuries.
“Yesterday alone, one officer was injured in Kisumu and succumbed; while 20 others sustained serious injuries, “the statement read in part.
Hundreds of mourners showed up in the funeral of Mama Grace Aketch Onyango in Kodiaga, Gem Constituency of Siaya County.
