Saturday, January 8, 2022 –Ex-Prime Minister Raila Amollo Odinga has lambasted Deputy President William Ruto over rampant corruption in the country.
Celebrating his 77th birthday yesterday Friday December 7 at the Bomas of Kenya attended by hundreds of youth from Nairobi County and a host of leaders from his Azimio La Umoja Movement, Odinga took issue with the second in command for distributing stolen resources in the name of uplifting the poor in the society.
Raila wondered how many people are today rich from what Ruto keeps dishing out in form of handouts.
Odinga argued that the standard of living of citizens will and can never be improved through roadside handouts. He added that a country’s GDP can only go up through appropriate policies.
“Askofu hana gari, tumeleta gari kwa askofu. Kila mwezi jamaa anatoa pesa za harambee shilingi millioni laki moja, mshahara wake ni millioni mbili.
“Hata Safaricom haiwezj kufanya harambee hivyo.
“Hawa watu wanatakikana wawe ndani ya jela si nje hapa. Ukijaribu hayo China utaingia ndani ya jela,” Raila said.
Raila also in his speech, narrated how he and the late former Kiharu MP, Kenneth Matiba, were detained in the 1980s and 1990s while fighting for the second liberation of this country.
The opposition honcho was saying this just hours after Ruto had joined the rest of the country in celebrating his (Raila’s) 77th birthday.
