Saturday, March 5, 2022 –Azimio la Umoja brigade is now up in arms over the recent remarks made by Deputy President William Ruto on election rigging scheme.
Speaking during their Bungoma County rally on Friday March 4, the camp led by Suna East MP Junet Mohamed challenged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC to also investigate Ruto the same way they are investigating MP Sabina Chege over her vote-rigging claims she made in Vihiga County.
“I want to tell Chebukati not to fear Ruto. Call him at once the way you did with Sabina Chege because he knows that he has been defeated and he wants to reject the polls,” advised Mohamed.
This is after Ruto who is on a 10-day tour in the US alleged that government through the Wafula Chebukati-led commission is plotting to rig the August 9 elections in favour of Mr. Odinga.
“We would have expected that we would be able to do this [election] without all the baggage of blackmail and intimidation that is going on at the moment, but unfortunately that is where we are.
“In fact, if you understand a little bit of Kiswahili, that’s what informs the current push by many Kenyans to say ‘hatupangwigwi’ (we cannot be forced to take a particular stand). Meaning we want to make our choices without being choreographed, chaperoned, blackmailed, or intimidated,” stated Ruto on March 2 at the Karson Institute, Maryland, USA.
On his part, Raila Odinga described the DP as a man on a deception mission who portrays a humble person’s face whenever he is abroad for sympathy reasons when in reality he is something else.
“The DP is a man who has mastered the art of putting on a show with a characteristic trait of lowering his voice, projecting himself as a humble individual before engaging in a high-level lying,” Raila said.
Ruto, according to Azimio la Umoja team, must also face probe over the sensitive remarks he recently against the State and the electoral body.
It is however, not clear what Chebuklati will be doing to hold Ruto to account, but the IEBC has already pronounced their position on the matter saying all aspirants are bound by the Elections Code of Conduct.
