Thursday, July 8, 2021 -Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga has said if it’s not about dealing with the corrupt individuals, there is no reason for him to become the next President of the Republic of Kenya.
The Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party leader divulged that immediately he talked about dealing with corruption if he is elected in 2022, he started receiving so many threatening calls from some Kenyans cautioning him to go slow on corruption.
He added that the ‘corrupt lords’ had panicked and were now asking him not to talk about corruption anymore.
But Mr. Odinga who was speaking on an interview maintained that the country was badly bleeding with Kenyans forced to pay high taxes just because some individuals had stolen billion and stashed them away.
Mr. Odinga has therefore said he is not afraid of facing off head on with the corrupt individuals who had looted this nation dry.
“I have received messages and people have been threatening and warning me to go slow on corruption matters lest I lose the support of Kenyans should I contest in the 2022 General Election.
“But if fighting corruption will make me lose popularity, so be it because if we don’t face corruption head-on as leaders, we will never grow as a country,” Raila said.
Raila also observed that such messages and warnings are a clear indicator that corruption was deeply rooted in this nation and if not fought today could consume the entire nation.
“If that is what people want, I would rather not be the president instead of leading a country where corruption is beyond 100 percent yet the perpetrators go scot-free,” he added.
The former premier asked Kenyans to support his quest to free the nation of any corrupt if they wanted to see an economic change.
“We cannot proceed or develop as a country where corruption is the order of the day. The action taken against the culprits is what makes the difference in the war against graft,” Odinga added.
The ODM Party boss first spoke about fighting corruption during his recent Coastal tour where he warned Deputy President William Ruto of dire consequences from 2022.
This did not go down well with Ruto who next day retaliated with a similar response linking Odinga to all the Jubilee Party failures.
