Sunday, February 19, 2023 –Hardcore criminals and jailbirds with several warrants of arrest are now part of United Democratic Alliance UDA Party operatives out to interfere with the ongoing Azimio la Umoja rallies.
Azimio boss Raila Odinga has issued a statement pointing fingers at the government side for trying to plunge the country into unnecessary chaos.
Odinga, through a statement delivered on Saturday February 18, claimed that a section of UDA Party politicians are working with the criminals to invade the ongoing anti-government rallies then blame it on him.
“That the attackers were led by a well-known jailbird and hardcore criminal with several warrants of arrest to his name, is an indication that we are back to rule by thuggery and hooliganism.
“The victims in this attack were youth who attended the very peaceful Azimio rally in Kisii on Friday,” he stated.
He went on to remind the government to focus on him and leave innocent supporters out of the equation.
“We call on UDA operatives who have issues with Azimio’s meetings to face us, the leaders and leave alone our innocent and peaceful supporters. We want to make it very clear that we will not allow state-sponsored hooliganism to take root in Kenya again and we will neither be cowed nor intimidated,” Raila challenged.
And if this continues, he said, Kenyans will have to start protecting themselves from such attacks and called upon the State to punish the culprits from Kisii who are well-known.
In his jam-packed weekend rally held in Kisii on Friday February 17, a clash ensued between Kenya Kwanza and Azimio supporters where stones were pelted in the air.
The incident worsened near Ram Hospital along the Daraja Moja-Nyamataro bypass.
Present in the rally were all top Azimio la Umoja leaders among them Kalonzo Musyoka, Ms Martha Karua and scores of other politicians.
