Saturday, April 10, 2021 -Raila Odinga and William Ruto’s pact is nigh as their emissaries work day and nights for a possible 2022 working formula.
Ruto and Odinga’s pact is drawing nearer by day despite lack of a clear message from the two bigwigs who upto now are still tight-lipped on the exciting development.
For now a month, Kenyans have been waiting to see what Mr. Odinga and Ruto are upto with most of them making speculations of an earth-shuttering alliance by the pair.
And as a hint on this, a few days ago, Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya was spotted with Ruto in Narok town where they held a more than 8 hour long meeting. Though the former refuted claims of having discussed politics, he would later emerge with a different story version on how Ruto engaged him on succession plans.
“My party leader (Raila) was not aware so I called and informed him because I knew it would be reported in the media as it is now,” said Oparanya
A day later on Friday April 9, Governor Oparanya with Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa were seen in Karen Nairobi where they confirmed to have shared with Odinga what they had discussed with his rival Ruto.
“Today I held a lengthy meeting with my Party Leader Hon @RailaOdinga at his Karen home. We discussed a range of issues affecting our party @TheODMparty and the Country,” Governor Oparanya updated his Twitter.
Fast forward, power planners in the team, according to sources, have already proposed a lineup that would see Raila take the presidency, Ruto assume Prime Minister’s position, Oparanya and Joho deputise Ruto and the Deputy President’s slot left for someone from Mt. Kenya.
Raila, according to insiders, will be required to strictly serve for only a term and pass the power baton to Mr. Ruto as the former takes PM slot in their second phase.
In the second power sharing proposal, further, Ruto would vie for the top seat as he is deputised by Mr. Kiunjuri or Martha Karua as in the first case; while Raila would become their Prime Minister. This means either way, the second in command position is specifically reserved for Mt. Kenya.
But even as Ruto-Odinga rumour continues to take shape, on the other hand, are Kalonzo Musyoka, Musalia Mudavadi, Gideon Moi and Moses Wetang’ula who have already come together through a new formation dubbed ‘One Kenya Alliance’.
It was this new outfit that seemingly triggered Odinga and Ruto’s adrenaline to think about how to counter.
The alliance of One Kenya, according to ODM Party leadership, was purposely designed to reduce Odinga into just another spectator. It was meant to water down his political clout ahead of 2022 what they are now fighting to stop early.
