Sunday, March 14, 2021 -Opposition leader Raila Amollo Odinga has finally been discharged from Nairobi Hospital.
In a video seen by homenews.co.ke, Mr. Odinga who is putting on his track suit, facemask and doing some stretching in the presence of his younger daughter Winnie Odinga can be seen in a jovial mood and thanking God for allowing him resume normalcy.
“It’s wonderful. It feels so nice to be back home…It was like a prison back there. It’s nice to breathe the fresh air and at least see nature,” Joyful Odinga stated.
His personal physician Oluoch Olunya while speaking shortly after discharging him said, the opposition leader refused to deny the public his health status because leaders from developed nations who have been ill with Covid all shared it out.
Just like the British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and former US President Donald Trump both shared their Covid-19 status when they contracted the virus, the former premier Odinga had to follow suit.
“He ordered that his results be made public and be accompanied with a personal statement to Kenyans that Covid-19 is real and they need to listen to what the government is saying,” Dr. Olunya stated.
Raila’s spokesperson Dennis Onyango also stated that the decision to go public whenever a leader is sick must be emulated by other leaders. This he said helps reduce speculations which sometimes could turn simple situation to worse and affect both the patient and the family.
But even as they were defending Odinga’s move to go public, in the neighbouring Tanzania, President John Pombe Magufuli’s whereabouts are still shrouded in darkness as his government has remained defensive on the matter.
