Sunday, July 21, 2024 –Opposition leader Raila Odinga has asked government to stop manipulating him over African Union Commission AUC job.
Raila who was speaking in Dubai where he has pitched camp now for days, noted that he is now considering dropping out of his AUC race if all that is being said is about him being manipulated by the Government for self gains.
“I am ready to forgo my AUC ambitions for the sake of my country if this is being used to manipulate me at the expense of the quest for a better and stable country,” Raila was quoted.
He also said that it was not proper for some individuals to report that he had been compromised by President William Ruto ahead of the dialogue.
“The idea that I have agreed to such a government is entirely false,” the ODM Part boss was quoted as stating.
Odinga then agreed with Siaya Governor James Orengo who, on Friday July 19, warned leaders against rushing to join hands with the government at the time the same government is being accused of harming and killing innocent young protesters.
“We cannot at a time we are mourning our people and some are scrambling for positions, this cannot happen,” Orengo stated last Friday.
The Siaya governor also vowed that he would rather resign or lose his seat rather than working with the current government.
Orengo, Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino, Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Kalonzo Musyoka have led their troops in calling out Odinga who had earlier agreed to sit down with the State in what was referred to as a National dialogue.
Their dialogue was meant to find a lasting solution for millions of youths who resorted to going on the streets over bad governance.
