Friday, December 10, 2021 –Opposition leader Raila Amollo Odinga has revealed the reason which has forced him to vie again for the presidency in 2022.
While officially making the highly awaited announcement at Kasarani today afternoon, Mr. Odinga noted that it was not meant to compete nor fight with anybody but to address the challenges facing the nation through better policies.
The Friday December 10 event saw Odinga take the country back memory lane on how he has beat all the hurdles to become who he is today.
In his speech he talked about he he has been faithful to the people of this nation and remained bold all due to the quest to realize democracy.
And from today, Raila announced that the Azimio la Umoja will now be referred to as Azimio la Umoja Movement.
“I Raila Amollo Odinga, hereby accept to present myself as a Presidential candidate at the Presidential Election on 9th of August 2022. I am not running for president to oppose anyone but to propose better policies,” he stated.
Odinga revisited his days in the struggle for democracy, how he was detained while fighting for the freedom currently being enjoyed by everyone. He seized the opportunity to list people he suffered with during the fight including his wife Mama Ida Odinga whom he described as a strong woman who made all these possible.
The opposition honcho also paid homage to the fallen heroes of the second liberation including Kenneth Matiba and Charles Rubia, George Anyona and Jean Marie Seroney. These heroes, Raila Odinga noted paid the ultimate price for demanding better from the government.
Key speakers in the event included US-based Lawyer Makau Mutua and Media mogul S. K. Macharia who replayed past media tapes of Raila’s father Oginga Odinga’s relationship with the founding president Jomo Kenyatta.
