Monday, February 7, 2022 –Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party has taken issue with Azimio affiliate parties who are misusing Raila Odinga’s photos to gain traction in the city.
This is after it was revealed that a section of Azimio la Umoja group from Mt Kenya have already designed posters with Raila’s image to hoodwink city electorate that the ODM Party was fully backing their candidate businessman Richard Ngatia.
It is now apparent that sibling rivalry could soon dent the gains already made by both Kenyatta and Odinga since the formation of the grand alliance that brings together ODM, Jubilee and other affiliated parties from across the country.
In Nairobi County alone, more than 5 candidates are already jostling for the seat of governor in the August 9th polls. Jubilee, for example, wants Raila to leave them the seat because they are backing his candidature for the Statehouse.
ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has, however, cautioned the Ngatia-led faction against campaigning using Raila’s graphics before such a resolution is reached at collectively.
“The other faction is using my pictures to mobilise people for rallies, but I can confirm that posters going around that we will be attending some rallies are fake. We are not attending those rallies,” Sifuna stated during the Sunday service.
On Sunday, February 6, one faction comprising ODM Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna, Westlands MP Tim Wanyonyi and former Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru attended Githurai New Hope Christian Mission church in order to drum up support for their candidates.
On the other hand, a group led by gubernatorial aspirant Ngatia, nominated MP Maina Kamanda and nominated Senator Beatrice Kwamboka, toured Ziwani area in Nairobi where they staged their counter-campaigns.
This saw Sifuna fault the group for luring voters using unorthodox means before seeking permission from Odinga who is strictly ODM Party leader. He urged their County opponents to instead use Uhuru Kenyatta’s portraits because he is their Jubilee Party boss.
ODM is already preparing Wetlands Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi to run for the Nairobi’s top seat.
