Saturday, May 6, 2023 –Government side has agreed with Raila Odinga’s other demand to have joint secretaries nominated outside the Parliament.

The deal and agreement to have other experts from outside Parliament saw William Ruto’s side pick on lawyer Muthomi Thiankolu; as Raila’s side chose to have long-serving ODM lawyer Paul Mwangi as their representative.

Since resuming bipartisan talks, Kenya Kwanza co-chair George Muragura noted that they have since made headways and progress on how to handle the remaining matters.

“We were to discuss the tabling of issues to be addressed. We have agreed upon a number and those that we have not agreed upon will be discussed,” he stated.

His co-chair and Rarieda lawmaker Otiende Amollo intimated that they were also considering expanding the talks outside Parliament what he described as another irreducible minimum they have put on the table.

He, therefore, assured that once done with agreeing on that, this will be made public as soon as possible with a timeline to complete the talks.

“The first issue to be discussed is whether it will be a parliamentary process, and the second is whether it could be by the executive gazettement under Article 131.
“It can be dealt with outside of Parliament and the executive by involving the public before being brought back to Parliament,” MP Otiende stated.

The bipartisan committee resumed talks on May 5, a day after Azimio la Umoja– One Kenya coalition called off its planned countrywide demonstrations which had entered phase two.

The move was necessitated by the Kenya Kwanza team ceding to some of opposition’s earlier demands, which included replacing Eldas MP Adan Keynan with Saku’s Ali Rasso Dido.
