Saturday, July 22, 2023 –Maurice Ogeta, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s long-serving security personnel, has been found dumped on a highway.
In a confirmation made on Saturday July 22, Ogeta was found along Kangundo Road days after he was abducted by men believed to be police officers.
Orange Democratic Movement ODM Communication Officer Philip Etale reported that Mr. Ogeta was dumped on Saturday in Ruai a few minutes past 1AM.
By that time, Etale stated that, he(Ogeta) had been blindfolded and dumped on the road making it hard for him to tell what place he was.
“Ogeta was released from police custody a few minutes before 1AM and driven while blindfolded and left in the middle of the road in Ruai towards Kangundo,” partly read the post from Raila’s communication aide.
Etale added that Ogeta’s car was found vandalized despite the fact that it was under police custody for now three days.
“His car is vandalised. However, he is happy to be alive,” he stated.
The shaken Ogeta told colleagues that he was still under shock from what had happened on him and was yet to recover from the mistreatment.
Though the police were yet to make any official statement on the matter, earlier reports indicated that he had been detained at Utawala Police Station in Nairobi.
The trained security officer was kidnapped by police officers on the first day Azimio had announced their three day demonstrations against government.
Raila, who is yet to appear in public, yesterday Friday July 21, warned that he will use all means possible to make sure every aide and supporter who had been arrested by the State is rescued soon.
“We will leave no one behind. Free Ogeta,” the opposition leader demanded on Friday afternoon.
The release of Raila’s bodyguard came hours after High Court Judge Lawrence Mugambi ordered Inspector General of Police Japhet Koome to produce Mr. Ogeta before a court of law.
This, Mugambi indicated, would enable the family and the court to determine the reasons for his detention as law requires.
