Tuesday, October 1, 2024 –MP Millie Odhiambo has asked Deputy President Rigathi Gachgua and his allies to keep off Raila Odinga’s name in the ongoing impeachment debate.
According to Millie, ODM is yet to take any position on the impeachment of DP Rigathi Gachagua and, therefore, it is wrong for leaders from Mt. Kenya to invoke Odinga’s name into their differences with the president.
She mentioned that the Mt. Kenya people warned opposition from touching the ‘Mountain’ and thus heeded the order but, unless, they refrain from invoking Raila’s name, they will be attacked in equal measure.
“As ODM, we did not take any party position on Gachagua impeachment. They told us not to touch ‘Murima’ and we heard. They should, however, know that there is an unwritten rule that says, if you don’t touch us and we will also not touch you,” Millie mentioned.
She accused Maragua Member of Parliament Mary Wa Maua of being among leaders from Central Region who have since started dragging Mr. Odinga into their fights with President Ruto.
She advised that time for politicians to use Raila’s name to con the electorates every other electioneering period is over.
Adhiambo stated that leaders should learn to be elected on the basis of integrity and service delivery and not attacking the opposition to get free votes.
Millie, therefore, said she had given the impeachment motion against Gachagua a wide bath but now that Hon Mauwa had mentioned the opposition leader who has nothing to do with Gachagua’s removal, she has decided to sign the motion is support of DP ouster.
She also added that she is now determined to persuade fellow opposition leaders to send Gachagua packing for disrespecting their party leader Raila Odinga.
Gachagua’s impeachment motion is set to be tabled in Parliament by Kimilili Member of Parliament Didmus Barasa.
