Friday, April 28, 2023 –Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya Leader Raila Odinga is returning to the country today Friday afternoon.
Mr. Odinga has been away for about a week taking a sabbatical leave in Dubai and his highly hyped return will see supporters throng the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA at 2:39PM.
His supporters were mid this week urged to show up in large numbers to receive him at the Airport as he jets back from the United Arab Emirates UAE.
For instance, last Wednesday, National Assembly Minority Leader Opiyo Wandayi asked elected leaders in the Azimio coalition to mobilise their supporters to go to JKIA to receive the party leader.
“As a party, we are gearing to accord him a grand welcome on arrival at the JKIA, then join him in a grand procession to the people’s Baraza at the Kamkunji Grounds, Kibra Constituency, on the same day. The Rt Hon Odinga will address the nation at the said meeting.
“We appeal to all supporters of our quest for a just, fair and democratic nation that prioritises its citizens, to turn up in large numbers and welcome Rt Hon Odinga home and attend the Kibra rally. We further appeal to everyone attending the twin events to maintain peace and order as we have done in the past,” the Ugunja Town MP said.
On arrival, the opposition leader will then join his supporters for a march to Kibra’s Kamkunji Grounds for a mega rally.
Some of our sources from security agencies have already indicated plans to barricade roads leading to the airport.
The opposition is now in its advanced stages of staging another round of countrywide demonstrations following the collapse of the bipartisan engagement with the government.
Both the opposition and the government side could not agree on the composition of the 14-member team.
Co-chair Lawyer Otiende Amollo would then come out of their first meeting to announce that, until this is clarified, the opposition will not be participating in the talks.
Raila’s side want Adan Kaynan out of the committee as Ruto’s side question the inclusion of South Pokot lawmaker David Pkosing in the opposition’s seven-member squad.
