News about former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i running for the presidency in the next general election has taken internet by a storm.

In a Nation newspaper headline, ‘Matiangi taps Botswana Poll Expert’, it is detailed that the former powerful CS in Uhuru Kenyatta’s regime, has started to mount early campaign experts in readiness for the next elections.

But sections of leaders among them Senator Samson Cherargei, hold the view that Matiang’i will not be elected and does not have support of the country due to his past conduct while serving in the Ministry of Interior.

“We shall not forget that under Matiang’i as minister of interior that unprecedented extrajudicial killings, political persecution, enforced disappearances and arrogance were order of the day!. Where dead bodies surfaced in Tsavo, river Yala etc and the pain and tears of parents, children and widows shall not be forgotten. I bet he can’t be even elected a cattle dip chairman somewhere in Nyamira!” Cherargei stated.

Nairobi Member of County Assembly MCA Robert Alai also warned the country against supporting Matiang’i presidency should he go forward to run for the top seat.

“He was one of the most corrupt and arrogant ministers Kenya ever had. He used to police to persecute political opponents and ensured that many were abducted and rivers and streams all over the country were flowing with bodies each day. But those who claim to hate corruption, abductions and disrespect for court orders thinks he should be the president. Just say that you hate Ruto for personal reasons. Don’t give us the Matiang’i nonsense”.

Nation publication claimed that the former powerful CS is gearing up for the duel and could faceoff with President William Ruto in 2027.
