Reason why Trains Continue Causing Accidents on Railways

Saturday, June 18, 2022 –There have been increased train accidents along the rail lines and this is due to the fact that trains in locomotion are not able to stop by emergency breaking on rail tracks.

Ugly accidents happen where trains in motion strike down crossing children, adults, animals et cetera. However, many people still wonder how this happens when trains have breaking systems just like cars.

Train drivers have never had intentions of causing accidents as many people have tried to imagine. The drivers would like to avoid knocking down lives just like a driver in a car will always try as much as possible to remain safe on the road.

But then the emerging question is why can’t train drivers apply breaks anytime there is an obstacle ahead? The answer or reason to this is simple, trains cannot stop instantly.

Trains are heavy, large and fast and therefore stopping instantly is not possible. In most cases when accidents occur, the driver only sees the object when it is already too late to slow down; when he is not ready to apply breaks in time and even if he does so, the train will remain moving for a kilometer or so to be able to finally stop; because train would only stop when the driver starts applying breaks 1.6 kilometers earlier.

This means anytime the driver is approaching dropping stations or points, he or she will start early to press the break and that is how he/she manages to stop at the right point for people to board and alight.
