Thursday, December 9, 2021 –Police service has reacted to the viral video showing a group of young men after their training pass out threatening members of the public with dire consequences.
In the widely circulated video clip, the youthful General Service Unit GSU officers can be seen bragging and chest-thumbing for having completed their 9 months training program and ready to deal with the public.
The group of around 10 graduates were speaking this in complete street lingua mostly associated with thuggery.
And in a statement issued by NPS on Wednesday December 9 evening, appropriate measures will be meted on the in-disciplined group.
“We wish to clarify and assure the public that the behaviour portrayed in the clip is not acceptable and does not reflect the values of the GSU, KPS and the NPS. All graduates went through a rigorous value-based training modelled on democratic policing principles and designed to make them responsive and responsible officers of the law at the service of citizens,” read part.
The NPS further promised that an internal review of their actions will be scrutinized to ascertain why the new graduates would go that extend.
“The remarks as made in the clip are, therefore, regrettable and stand condemned. An internal review is ongoing with a view of preferring appropriate measures regarding the incident. GSU is renowned for its focused training aimed at producing highly disciplined and responsible officers,” the NPS stated.
The video showed the group making reckless utterances meant to instill fear into members of the public even before their official deployment.
The clip would quickly spread on all social media platforms raising varied concerns from Kenyans most who thought the young men were not fit for the job.
Law Society of Kenya LSK President Nelson Havi regretted saying the young men must be retrained and if possible taken through mental tests before being allowed out because they may harm innocent civilians.
