Friday, May 20, 2022 –Political Parties Registrar has blocked Wiper Democratic Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka from running for presidency in the August general elections.
Today Friday May 20, the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP) wrote to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC not to clear Musyoka to vie on a Wiper Party ticket because his party was still active in Azimio la Umoja-One Kenya coalition whose official flag bearer is Raila Odinga and whom Kalonzo’s party Wiper fronted.
This is following Kalonzo’s move to bolt out of their Azimio coalition after he fell out with Raila Odinga over trust related issues.
Therefore, Registrar Ann Nderitu, argued in her letter that Mr. Kalonzo cannot be allowed to run for the top seat through his party because he had not officially left the coalition.
She maintained that allowing Musyoka to run would equal to allowing two presidential candidates to run on a single party.
Kalonzo and other fringe parties in Azimio signed a pact that cannot allow them to leave the coalition midway; unless if it’s through proper dispute resolution channels.
Currently, Kalonzo’s team is plotting to frustrate Raila Odinga’s efforts of ascending to power after he recently unveiled Narc-Kenya Party leader Martha Karua as his preferred running mate.
“Without a power-sharing agreement, which is registered with the Registrar of Political Parties, everything else is a nullity,” Makueni MP Dan Maanzo charged.
This is happening even after Odinga publicly offered Musyoka an olive hand to remain in Azimio and serve in the capacity of chief cabinet Minister; and offer that Kalonzo is yet to take.
The Wiper Party boss has since taken a one week break from national politics to do ‘some reflection’.
