Efforts to reunite Deputy President William Ruto with the Handshake team are on the way.
Uhuru Kenyatta’s cousin Kung’u Muigai who together with his team from Mt. Kenya region met with DP William Ruto at his office on Tuesday October 27, are spearheading the process whose aim is to revive the Uhuruto duo.
Kung’u who is claimed to be the patron of Mt. Kenya Council of Elders urged the DP to start supporting the Building Bridges Initiative BBI Report so that President Kenyatta can secure his legacy towards his retire.
Sources who whispered to us the unfolding from their daylong meeting, disclosed how the DP was positive on the advice to support the president with hpes that his views will also be treated with respect.
“Ruto is ready to engage with other leaders to strengthen the document, eliminate contentious issues, respect separation of powers and make it more focused on the issues about ordinary Kenyans,” DP’s spokesperson David Mugonyi stated.
Mugonyi then confirmed that already the elders will be meeting Mr. Kenyatta over the issue in a few days to come. They will also be meeting with Mr. Odinga with an aim of making sure the BBI Report is rectified for the sake of common mwananchi.
In his submission at the Bomas of Kenya during the recent BBI launch, Ruto pointed out a few weaknesses in the entire BBI Report which he said must be reviewed for him to decide if he is going to support it.
He warned that will this not happen, Kenyans mostly his supporters will rise against it and force it to fail when time comes.
Ruto touched on the changes at IEBC, Police and the Winner Takes it All concerns saying these were a few of the grey areas he still thinks were not well captured in the final Report.
“I want to ask leaders across Kenya not to engage in the divisive debate even if we fo to the referendum.
“It is possible we have a win-win referendum. There is no gain in dividing the country,” Ruto said.
And as the BBI debate rages on, it will be interesting to see what comes out of his meetings with both Uhuru Kenyatta and Mr. Raila Odinga who is currently still on an official tour in DRC Congo.
