Sunday, August 27, 2023 –Talented former Kleptomaniax Rapper and singer-turned-solo-artiste Nyamari Ogengo or Nyashinski must switch off lights in the recording booth before recording a hit song. It has emerged.
Close music producers who have worked with him, have shared rare details about the singer who has remained relevant for long in the mucky Kenyan music industry.
They say, just like many other top musicians have their own unique way of doing things when recording music, Nyashinski is not an exception with this routine.
Making the revelations, three producers and fellow singers – film maker Abel Mutua, Polycarp Fancy Fingers of Sauti Sol and music producer Keggah – have all told a similar story of the magic that happens when the rapper is in the booth.
“After we finished the show in Eldoret we went to Boma Hotel where our rooms were and Cedo hinted that he would invite me for a recording that night. At around 9.30pm he called and asked me to go to his room where he had set up a recording booth,” the actor Mutua said as quoted in the Pulse.
He was shocked to see the rapper busy on his phone as they chatted along but, at some point, he(Mutua) thought was intruding in his business only to learn later that Nyashinski was busy writing lyrics to record that day.
“After he finished multi-tasking, (talking and writing a song) he signaled Cedo that he was ready to record and asked me to switch off the lights. I was a bit startled because it was now 11PM meaning that we would be in complete darkness.
“Nyashinski told me that he prefers to record in the dark because he likes to feel as though he is alone in the studio. He gave the lyrics one last look and I switched off the lights. By the end of the recording session, we knew it would be a hit,” Abel Mutua disclosed the details further.
Beat ya Keggah also shared a similar story about the rapper saying he was surprised when he asked him to put off the lights so that to start recording.
“He goes into the booth and closes all the curtains and switches off all the lights. Everyone on the other side of the room was shocked and I was confused,” Keggah recalled in an interview on CTA.
Nyashinski is a popular Kenyan singer and rapper who started with rap trio Kleptomaniax before moving to the U.S.A and coming back as a solo artiste.
He has since remained relevant in the industry now 15 years later.
