Saturday, June 5, 2021 -Nairobi girl who got lost 15 days ago has resurfaced with an explanation on where she was all this time.
Ms Maureen Musungu who appeared at their Karen home yesterday Friday June 4 safe at around 11AM told her parents that she had been holed up in a man’s apartment in Athi River Machakos County.
Detailing her disappearance, she revealed that a male friend had locked her up in the house for two weeks after he reportedly lost his house keys hence forcing them to remain inside until Friday.
The 23 year old Business student at Strathmore University revealed that the friend in question only provided her with everything basic she needed including bathing water, meals and drinks but couldn’t allow her to touch her phone.
Her parents have since asked police to hunt down the man who is now believed to have released her on Friday morning of June 4 after he was done with her.
Her father who spoke to the media said they had taken their daughter to the Nairobi Women Hospital for checkups and health assessments.
Her brother Morgan Ambani shared the same joy saying they will have to pursue for her justice, anyway.
“We are now at ease that she has come back home”, Maureen brother Mr. Ambani confirmed to the media adding that
Before her disappearance, she had left home to meet unidentified friends but didn’t return in the evening. Her family started looking for her in all the possible places without much success before they reported the matter to both police and Media.
Between March and May alone, more than four cases of missing persons have been reported with some unlucky ones being found dead.
But even as this crime continues to bite, activists have cautioned girls against misusing the word ‘abduction’ even when they have been enjoying their dates. That faking abduction could create a bad precedence in the society and could make it hard for the authorities to pursue genuine cases.
