Thursday, February 17, 2022 – A man who was intercepted at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA with a sum of sh 238 million has been identified.
The suspect, according to sources, is a coming up politician who is also vying for a parliamentary seat in Rift Valley area on a popular party ticket.
He was reportedly nabbed by customs officials with a whopping sh 238 million in dollar currency.
Police divulged that he had a hard time explaining what he does to make the huge sums of cash he was arrested with.
At some point when pressured, he waffled around saying he is a large scale maize trader based in Burundi and later changed tune, claiming that he had won a lottery. This forced the customs officials to confiscate the cash before handing him over to the Anti-Terror Police Unit.
“Upon arrival, the passenger made a declaration of the currency indicating the origin as Banque de Credit de Bujumbura (BCB) to a recipient Brinks Global Services, Kenya,” a statement from the taxman read in part.
Our sources have since established that the suspect, is vying for a parliamentary seat and he is a close ally of a top presidential candidate in the country.
It is now believed that part of the cash was meant to fund political party related activities around the country.
The said questionable bundles of cash was packed as a parcel containing 2 million dollars.
