Wednesday, March 3, 2021 -Matungu by-election continued to get messy as accusations and counter-accusation openly played out among the players.
ANC Party leader Musalia Mudavadi on Wednesday claimed that some Kakamega county officials had already infiltrated the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission IEBC systems so as to interfere with transmitted results.
This was happening just a day after Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala also said there was a plan by the Kakamega County Government to give uniformed face-masks to their supporters who will be voting.
“We have an issue with how ODM team are planning to interfere with this process. They are issuing unique masks that are going to identify their supporters. They have already compromised some presiding officers who will identify the supporters with the unique masks. In some instances, they will be given two ballots to cast,” Malala said.
And speaking from his Mululu Village on Wednesday March 3, the ANC Party leader Mr. Mudavadi hit directly at Governor Oparanya whom he claimed is using dirty tricks to rig against them in Matungu. He urged the electoral body to come clean on the said issue for the sake of Matungu residents who deserve justice after they wake up early to cast their votes on March 4.
Responding to the claims, IEBC Commissioner Yakub Guliye confirmed having done a thorough investigation into Mudavadi’s wild claims and sacked the said suspect.
“He had been recruited in the Information and Communications Department but once the allegations were confirmed, he was asked to step down,” Guliye stated.
The commissioner assured that the suspect was yet to interfere with their operating systems.
The Matungu race attracted at least 15 candidates among them Mr. Peter Nabulindo (Amani National Congress), Alex Lanya (United Democratic Alliance) and David Were (ODM).
