Monday, November 21, 2022 –A land lord whose apartment recently killed people in Ruaka Nairobi after it collapsed due to wrong building materials has been nabbed trying to escape out of the country.
The owner of the six-storey structure was cornered while at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport JKIA on Monday November 21.
His building, on Thursday last week, collapsed on a neighboring house hence killing two persons from the same family.
“There is loss of life and damage of property, people died in Kirigiti and Ruaka so there are so many things that we are looking at,” Kiambu County Commissioner Joshua Nkanatha stated.
Currently, a multi-agency team is being formed to start looking into building and constructions taking place around many major cities across the country to reduce such cases of low-standard-structures that end up killing innocent occupants.
Commissioner Nkanatha also seized the opportunity to attack the judiciary for letting go scot-free such landlords and contractors doing shoddy work in the name of building homes.
On his part, enraged Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja asked the prosecution side to charge such landlords with capital murder.
