Friday, February 24, 2023 -Government has today promised to bring down cost of cooking gas following public uproar.
In a notice addressed to the Ministry of Treasury, President William Ruto on Friday, February 24, promised to work all means possible to see all taxes on Liquefied Petroleum LPG gas is scrapped.
Speaking in Dongo Kundu, the head of State explained that the Kenya Kwanza Government has a plan ro ensure that local cooking gas is made affordable to every one.
“In the next three years, all Kenyan houses will have cooking gas which is very affordable.
“We are going to remove all taxes that are currently being levied on cooking gas so that we can make sure that every household in the Republic of Kenya has access to affordable LPG and we eliminate the wood fuel,” Ruto stated.
His statements are coming at a time the market prices for various quantities of cooking gas have gone up.
Many Kenyans have been piling pressure on the government to make the cost of living affordable.
Opposition leader, Raila Odinga, while addressing supporters at Jevanjee Gardens this week, gave the government a 14-day altmutum to reduce taxes on basic commodities or face consequences.
