Saturday, June 18, 2022 -Deputy President William Ruto’s yesterday tour of Western Region was meant to tame looming fallout among alliance parties.
A source which spoke to Homenews.co.ke on Saturday June 18 afternoon indicated that Ruto sat down Senator Cleophas Malala and his predecessor Boni Khalwale to ask them to support each other ahead of August 9 elections.
The insider told this desk that the 3-hour long meeting and subsequent rallies were organized last minute after Ruto learnt that there was a heavy fallout in Western Region with Amani National Congress ANC Party members starting to pull away from UDA political activities.
Notably, this meeting was informed by the recent exchange between Senator Malala and Boni Khalwale when they were holding their rally in Matungu.
The DP also intervened to see that Vihiga County Woman Representative Beatrice Adagala and UDA’s candidate Jackline Mwenesi sit down to agree who should cede ground for another a move that saw Mwenesi pull out of the race following the pressure from their leaders.
Addressing the matter in their Mumias rally, Mumias East Member of Parliament Benjamin Washiali said their fallout was temporary and that they had now ironed out their differences with a promise to soldier on together as a team.
“We have men in our team and there are times when we fail to reach a common ground but that is common and it is not a big issue,” said Washiali.
Ruto’s tour saw several leaders come together to mend fences with a promise to support each other so that to not give room to rivals from Azimio la Umoja to win seats in the forthcoming election only one month away.
