Thursday, October 26, 2023 –President William Ruto has responded to the escalating controversy surrounding billionaire businessman Gerishom Kirima.
On Thursday October 26, the head of State addressed the standoff between Kirima family and residents of Njiru Nairobi.
Ruto, while speaking during his Thursday visit in Kasarani Constituency where he flagged off Motor vehicles for Education offices, said land grabbing remains a crime and warned the cartels grabbing public land to sell it out to unsuspecting Kenyans that his administration will nolonger condone that.
He, however, noted that the families affected in the area after the court order granted Kirima family the land Title Deed, that they will be given freedom to negotiate with the owners and strike a fairer deal.
“What we must get rid of in the country is impunity. We all must play by the rules and we are all equal. The people who are willing to negotiate should do so that is the best way to go about it,” he added.
President Ruto pointed out how some Kenyans had built flats and residential homes around the Kenya Institute of Special Education KISE before acquiring the required government papers and approval.
From the information provided by the school, only 76 out of 96 acres are occupied by the school as 20 acres remains in the hands of land grabbers.
Ruto, therefore, said his government will not be forcefully vacating people but urged them to be available to amicably strike a lasting deal before any demolitions can be started.
“I am told some people have built flats around this area, we will negotiate with them. We need the money to build factories, we shall divide the land and sell it to them at the current market value,” Dr. Ruto declared.
He urged the area Member of Parliament Ronald Karauri to make plans with settlers on the planned land to draft a way forward.
Yesterday, Wednesday October 25, both Embakasi East Member of Parliament and his Kasarani counterpart Ronald Karauri threatened to stage a counter-attack should government start demolitions in their area.
They however, under government supervision, promised to strike a deal with the owner so that to save hundreds of families already residing on the land.
