Monday, August 28, 2023 –President William Ruto has acknowledged the importance of creating and funding official office of the opposition leader.

Speaking from Bungoma on Sunday August 27, President Ruto said he was much willing to have the office created and funded properly so that to keep his government in check.

In his speech, Ruto said, if opposition leader’s office can help check the executive excesses, so be it and, therefore, should be created at tax payers’ cost.

“If they want us to create the office of the leader of opposition, I am ready to fund with the government of Kenya. He (Raila Odinga) will be releasing statements from morning till evening on where the government is lacking. I have no problem.

“If he says I have not fixed something, and indeed I have not won’t I fix it? I have no issue,” he added.

Dr. Ruto, however, warned against any attempts by the opposition to resuscitate chaos through new demonstrations around the country.

He said, under his leadership, he will not allow acts of lawlessness from the opposition, in the name of checking his government.

“What I cannot condone whatsoever is chaos and the destruction of property and destroying people’s businesses to sabotage the economy of Kenya. That is not acceptable. It is unpatriotic, undemocratic, illegal, unconstitutional and against the rule of law,” President further stated.

The head of State was saying this amid back and forth over the ongoing bipartisan talks at the Bomas of Kenya.

Currently, the 10-member joint committee, with five representatives from each side, is deliberating a myriad of contentious matters including the high cost of living as fronted by Azimio.

Raila, who was in Kajiado over the weekend accompanied by Martha Karua, promised to return to the streets should talks flop.

Majority leader in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, quickly responded to Odinga by reminding him that threatening their committee for a certain outcome will not change things.

He, instead, dared Azimio to return to the streets if that is its expected end game.
