Ruto and Raila Must be Very Careful Going Forward

Chris Akali

President William Ruto and the Rt. Hon. Raila Odinga have already ganged up against any ‘external’ threat ahead of the 2027 duel.

And do not be lied to that these two are or will break up for other formations anytime soon. Do not console yourself that the two bigwigs could severe ways before the next general election. They are not on a relationship experiment. Forget.

Ruto is known to plan early. Every time, Dr. Ruto makes his plans clear and ready. When he resolves to support someone, he does and makes the declaration early enough and in the open. When he declared his support to Uhuru in 2013, he did it wholeheartedly for two terms. He didn’t mind doing it twice for Uhuru. He also supported Odinga with all his heart in 2007 and, recently, supported his African Union Commission contest.

Raila has, not once, lauded Ruto for his support both in kind and cash.

Leave that aside, let’s go back to the point, Dr. Ruto is never a late planner. He has already started planning early so that his coalition with Odinga is clearer to everyone. He wants the presidential candidate known early so that to avoid what we call ‘late hour confusion’ as had been witnessed in previous opposition politics.

If there is anyone who wants to faceoff with Ruto, then be ready to also deal with Mr.  Odinga. Just know that the two guys are your next rivals in 2027. Nothing more nothing less!

But even as it may, Ruto and Raila must now change the way the country is being governed. Kenya is not doing so well. How appointments are made in a skewed and haphazard manner, how public money is being handled, opulence among public officers, wastage and the overall public officials conduct must be addressed urgently.

Almost the whole nation is not happy and that is why the president himself is ganging up with Mr. Odinga. He, actually, knows all is not well. Kenyans are openly tired with empty rooftop promises every weekend. They can’t take it anymore. It’s the end of lies and public anger has reached its boiling point.

Raila and Ruto must now change the attitude the country has towards this government because, if the current trend goes on, be assured, the country will reject both of them altogether at once.

We will have to angrily replace Ruto and his henchmen on the ballot or through all available means. The steam is gathering and business will not be as usual. Kenyans could vote for Matiangi, Omtatah or David Maraga just to remove Ruto by all means.

In his speech at the KICC on Friday, Odinga already told Ruto that there is no yet any coalition agreement signed between them; but if things go well and the NADCO report is fully looked into and implemented as was recommended, then he may finally support the 2027 coalition with UDA. This simply meant that, ODM is on a high alert that, if bad governance continues, they could bolt out at eleventh hour and leave Ruto on his own.

Said and done, Kenyans are keeping vigil and ready to faceoff this administration just in case it continues to become rogue and dictatorial. Otherwise, Ruto and Raila have enough time to rearrange their house and put everything in order to survive the remaining days in power.
